The Barbican Centre | Barbican Estate, City Of London.

The world renowned ‘Barbican Centre’ is a Grade II listed hub for the arts and is the largest of its kind in Europe. We were therefore honoured to have been invited to undertake internal exhibition works within the centre. In a set of unfortunate circumstances, a long standing contractor to the Barbican went into administration on the eve of starting their awarded contract works. We were subsequently called for an urgent design meeting, whereby we were asked to review and comment on the scope of works, design, logistics and budget.

We agreed to undertake the works and deployed the best from our teams to carry out and deliver the internal structures/screens for their forthcoming exhibition within a very tight two and a half week time frame. With all parties working together very well and efficiently, we were able to achieve this without a moment to spare.

Boucheron | 15 Old Bond Street, London.

We were asked to carry out the design, supply and installation of an elegant, yet ultra-secure shopfront in this prestigious street. The design comprised of a high level security rating with additional integrated solenoid magnetic shoot bolts, operated from a remote hand held device.

The specification:

  • Schuco AWS/ADS 90 BR RC4 door and frames. (RC4 rated level of security).
  • Security glazing P7B – Testing and classification of resistance against manual attack, 51 – 70 strikes.
  • Security rated steel doorsets and steel doors are designed to withstand physical attack for varying periods of time, with a variety of attack tools. The longer the attack time, the more aggressive the tools used, the higher the steel doorsets’ rating. It is expected that the European Standard, EN1627-30 (RC ratings), will become the Harmonized standard for security steel doorsets; currently this is a voluntary standard and, as such, Teckentrup has already adopted it in anticipation of it becoming mandatory. UK private company standards PAS24, BRE LPS1175 (SR ratings) and Exova STS202 (BR ratings) ratings are currently used. Teckentrup dw62 XL security steel doorsets and steel doors are tested to anticipated European and others standards: EN1627: RC2, RC3 & RC4 STS202: BR1, BR2 & BR3.

Dartbrooke Coffee Limited | 1 Leather Lane, London.

During the internal fit out and conversion of building 120 Holborn, we were asked to re-design the frameless glazed ground floor frontage, for the newly proposed unit within.

‘Dartbrooke Coffee’ is a new line of organic coffee shops and this was the location of their flagship shop. The client required us to offer and deliver a design that would remove the existing glass panels (4.3m high) and relocated, whilst integrating additional panels and entrance door to the new shop. This meant that we had to survey, design, manufacture, deliver and install within one week – due to the client’s self-imposed deadlines for opening day. We met this deadline, with the inclusion of the illuminated signage.

The specification:

  • Glass – polished float, cut and drilled: low iron clear toughened.
  • Side panels, overhead transom and fins: 15mm.
  • Door: 12mm.
  • Hardware – patch fittings and floor spring: ‘Dormar’.

Monki | Westfield Shopping Centre, Stratford, London.

‘Monki’ is a clothing and styles brand that is part of the ‘H&M’ Group and chain of shops. They decided to have their benchmark store for their arched frontage design located within the ‘Westfield Stratford City’ centre. We were employed to undertake the design, supply and installation of a very complex design within extremely tight time constraints owing to last minute sign off on design. Despite this, we managed to deliver this project on time and on budget.

Specification:

  • Brushed stainless steel arched sheet cladding to structural MDF and steel sub-structures.
  • Polished stainless steel strip arches and channel integrated with glass panels and cladding.
  • Glazing – 19.5mm low iron, clear toughened laminated.
  • Hardware – Patch fittings and floor spring: ‘Dormar’.
